Some Pelmian plants known for their contraceptive properties. It is currently unknown if similar plants exist on Haurah.
Moondrop
Pale blue drop-shaped blossoms hang from dark green stems. The dark green leaves fan out flat to the ground around the base of the plant. They are named for the appearance of drops of moonlight, hovering suspended in the air. However, the name also refers to the common misconception that the moon’s phases control when a female goes into heat. Moondrop blossoms are drunk as a tea, which has a pleasant flavor. It is very reliable and easy on the body while you are taking it, but it can be addictive. Does who have stopped taking moondrop go through withdrawl-like symptoms, as well as experiencing severe mood swings, rage, and lust when they next go into heat.
Heart’s Bane
A common Pelmian plant thought to be named for the lopsided leaves that have the appearance of a heart. The leaves and stem are a bright green, and the roots are pale cream and stringy. When dried and powdered, Heart’s Bane can serve as a contraceptive. It can also induce miscarriage. When first taking Heart’s Bane, it can cause mood swings and irritability. Additionally, in the rare cases when Heart’s Bane fails to end the pregnancy, the fawn is almost always born with distinctive malformations of the facial scales. This defect reflects strongly on the mother: everyone will know that the doe tried to lose the fawn, and no one will willingly take her as a mate again. There is also an implied slight against the fawn, who is known to be unwanted and without a father.
Bloodstem
Bloodstem is named for its unusual, bright red stem. Thin, needle-like leaves extend from one side of the stem. They often grow in clumps. The juice from the crushed stems is a very effective contraceptive. It can cause trouble with the blood, especially blood clots. For this reason, it is often used during difficult births. It is not effective after conception, and therefore poses no risk to the child being born. Overuse has been known to cause permanent infertility. It is also rumored to taste absolutely terrible.
